Abstract
769,314. Embossing and printing processes. ROCK HILL PRINTING & FINISHING CO. Jan. 4, 1954, No. 176/54. Class 100(2) A web of fabric W is both embossed and coloured in selected areas by being passed between an embossing roller 16 and a backing roller 18 carrying a complementary pattern and then, whilst still carried on the backing roller, engaged with a colour applying roller 28 which rotates at a speed equal to that of the web. The roller 28 may be smooth and cylindrical so that it contacts only the raised parts of the web, the colour being supplied to the roller 28 by a contacting transfer roller 26 receiving it, in turn, from a roller 24 rotating in a reservoir 22. Alternatively the colour applying roller may have a relief pattern equivalent to the embossing surface of the roller 16 and the remainder of the peripheral surface may be patterned so that colour is applied in a pattern to the ground parts only of the embossed web. Colour is supplied to the printing surfaces of this roller by a roller arrangement similar to that described above. Exact register is obtained in the second case by providing a worm and gear connection between the shaft and driving gear of the applying roller allowing circumferential adjustment. Specification 732,417 is referred to.
