Abstract

1390819 Embossing leather R W HALLIWELL 8 May 1973 [13 May 1972] 22594/72 Heading C6C [Also in Division B6] A process for embossing leather comprises the steps of placing the leather to be embossed in a wet or damp condition in contact with a patterned embossing surface on the platen of a vacuum drying apparatus and operating the drying apparatus. The patterned surface may be embossed paper, a mesh of fabric, plastics or wire, wood or may alternatively comprise coins. The platen may be heated. Softening agents e.g. fat liquors or hydrocarbons may be applied to the leather before embossing. The leather may be dyed and buffed with emery paper after embossing.
