Embossing; bronzing and the like; stencils and stencilling ; transfers.-Relates to processes for embossing or marking textiles, leather, and other materials in colours, and consists in interposing between the material and a heated embossing roller or plate, a sheet of paper coated with a thin layer of paraffin wax or other fatty body mixed with suitable colouring-matter, the coated face being placed against the material. In addition, a fabric of loose texture may be arranged between the material to be marked and the coated sheet. The waxed paper f is attached to rolls g, i and the material c to be marked to rolls d, e, and the two webs pass between a pressure roller b and an embossing-roller a heated to 50-60‹ C. The wax melts at the places where it is subjected to pressure from the relief parts of the roller a and, together with the colour it contains, soaks into the material at these places, causing the threads of the material to adhere at the embossed parts and remain in such position When a fabric of loose texture such as tulle &c. is interposed, it absorbs the colour and gives to the design on the cloth an appearance similar to its texture. An ordinary stamping-machine can be adapted for carrying out the process by providing arms to carry the roller upon which the waxed paper is placed. The waxed paper f can afterwards be used to print the reverse pattern on a material by passing between two smoothfaced rollers. Specifications 23053/07, 9270/10, and 9271/10 are referred to.
