Class 107 A road surface comprises prefabricated reinformed concrete slabs having a length the width of the road and being braced together in the direction of the road. The slabs 1 rest on a foundation consisting of a tamped stone layer covered with sand, and are connected by tongues and grooves. A certain number of slabs are laid and cemented together to form a group. Each group is separated by cross members 6 on which tension wires 7 running in pipes 9 are caused to act in known manner by the strainers 10 and hydraulic pump 11. After tensioning, the wires 7 are embedded in concrete. In one embodiment the tension wires run through spaces in the slabs and are spaced across a transverse section of the road.
