Abstract
768,986. Centrifugal governors. CREED & CO., Ltd. May 6, 1955 [May 14, 1954], No. 13187/55. Class 57. [Also in Group XXXVII] A governor for controlling the speed of an electric motor by removing a short circuit across a resistor in series with the field winding, comprises a bowed spring 11 fixed to the end of the motor shaft 1 and carrying weights 10, a bowed spring 12 being fixed at its ends to the spring 11 whereby as the motor speed increases the spring 11 straightens and a plate 2 on the spring 12 moves to engage a pin 3 on a spring 13 fixed at 4 and carrying at its free end a contact 14. Thus the contact 14 disengages a fixed contact 5. The spring 13 is magnetic and its deflection to separate the contacts is assisted by an electromagnet 15, adjustment of the current in the magnet permitting adjustment of the speed at which the contacts open.
