Abstract
589,626. Magnetic switches; regulating switches. WEST & CO., Ltd., A., and JOHNSON, C. Jan. 25, 1945, No. 2012. [Class 38 (v)] A series of contacts, for a variable resistance, is progressively actuated by a common magnet 5 which is adapted to be moved in a path close to a series af armatures 4, respectively associated with' the contacts 2, so that the armatures and corresponding contacts are actuated as the magnet passes them. In Fig. 2, the magnet 5 is carried by an operating shaft 17, and a second magnet (not shown) is mounted diametrically opposite to the first. A disc 18 on shaft 17 has an arm 23 which engages two stops 22 to limit rotation of the magnets. The armatures 4 are mounted on levers 8 which are pivoted on brackets 9 and which engage the contacts 2. These contacts are carried on springs 7 fixed on an insulating cylinder 24 carrying a conducting ring 25 and a series of conducting segments 1. The contacts 2 are arranged in two series and are connected to tappings on two resistances 3. When two diametrically opposite armatures 4 are attracted, the corresponding contacts 2 engage ring 1 so that equal amounts of each winding 3 are put in series between terminals 6, Fig. 1.
