Class 38(5) A switch responsive to sustained but not transient overload and insensitive to acceleration, comprises a winding a on a non-magnetic bush b serving as a dashpot cylinder for two magnetic cores d, pole pieces c and an armature e completing the magnetic circuit. Springs f, g normally hold the cores in the position shown. A sufficient current in the winding a causes the cores to move towards each other with a delay produced by the dashpot action, the increased inductance of the magnetic circuit causing pivoting of the armature e against its spring j to close contacts h, i. An acceleration causes movement of the cores in the same direction and thus no change occurs in the magnetic circuit inductance.
