Abstract
768,771. Rotary furnaces. SOC. ANON. DES CHAUX & CIMENTS DE LAFARGE ET DU TEIL. April 14, 1955 [May 17, 1954], No. 10797/55. Class 51 (2). A rotary furnace for firing cement, alumina, dolomite or magnesia comprises a drum 1 having a refractory lining 10 and divided into longitudinal compartments 5 disposed around a central cylindrical compartment 6 in the moderately heated zone CB. The compartments are formed by radial partitions 8 built into the lining 10 and having arc-shaped inner ends 8a making tongue and groove joints with intermediate blocks 11 to define the central compartment 6. The partitions 8 and blocks 11 are made of material having good heat conductivity, preferably silicon carbide, and the tongue and groove joints may be sealed with refractory cement. In a modification, Figs. 4-6 (not shown), the interior of the furnace drum is divided into a honeycomb structure built up of welded heat-resisting steel panels. The outer panels are anchored in the refractory lining, and the length of the sides of the hexagons preferably does not exceed 25 cms.
