Abstract
768,613. Engine frames ; lubricating. AKTIEBOLAGET GOTAVERKEN. April 18, 1955 [April 28, 1954], No. 11156/55. Class 7 (2). In a welded frame for a dual crank-shaft opposed-piston engine, comprising an upper crank case 3 and a lower crank case 4 common to a plurality of engine cylinders and interconnected by inter-cylinder standards 1, 2 a frame member or members constitute a passage or passages for necessary engine fluid, e.g. lubricant, distribution. Each crank case comprises horizontal longitudinal beams 5, 6 and a trough-shaped member 8 the joints between which are reinforced by sheet-metal strips 10 of arcuate cross-section, two of the resulting passages distributing lubricant to crank-shaft bearings via ducts 12 and the others lubricant for other purposes e.g. piston cooling. The standards 1, 2 are tubes closed at their ends by crank-shaft bearing cap bolts 13 and act to lead oil from the crank case 3 to the crank case 4 via hollow brackets 16 and apertures 15.
