767,702. Photographic developers. KODAK, Ltd. Aug. 3, 1954 [Aug: 3, 1953], No. 22508/54. Class 98(2) A photographic developer composition, in wet or dry form comprises .an alkaline material, a 3-pyrazolidone developing agent, and gallic acid. The 3-pyrazolidone developing agent may have the general formula wherein R 1 to R 5 can be H. or alkyl or aryl groups, substituted or not. Numerous 3-pyrazolidones are specified, including 1- phenyl - 2 - acetyl - 4 : 4 - dimethyl 3 - pyrazolidone. The activity of the developer is increased as compared with developers not containing both galic acid and the 3- pyrazolidone compound, and when the developer is free from silver halide solvents, it behaves as a strong surface latent image developer. In examples, data illustrating the activity of developers containing gallic acid and 1-phenyl-4 : 4-dimethyl- 3 - pyrazolidone and 1 - phenyl - 3 - pyrazolidone are given. The developer may also contain sodium hexametaphosphate, potassium bromide. and iodide, and 1 - phenyl - 5 - mercaptotetrazole. In a dry developing, composition, the alkaline material may be sodium carbonate, caustic alkali, or sodium perborate.
