Abstract
767,362. Blasting cartridges. OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORPORATION. Nov. 25, 1954, No. 34181/54. Class 9 (1). A fluid pressure blasting cartridge, Fig. 1, comprises a body part 10 communicating with a gas supply conduit 12 and a venting cap 40 connected together by a sleeve 20 within which is a rupture plate 60 held between a clamping ring 30 and a shearing ring 50. Diametrically opposed openings 24 in the sleeve 20 give access to the plate 60 as in Specification 768,164. The cap 40 is of steel or other metal of the same strength and hardness as the parts 10, 20, 30. O-rings 66, 68 seated in grooves seal the joints between the sleeve 20 and the part 10 and the ring 30. The plate 60 is preferably of mild steel. After operation of the cartridge, the cap 40 is rotated to release the pressure on the ring 50. Whereupon the remaining fragments of the plate 60 can be withdrawn through the openings 24 and a new plate inserted to reset the cartridge.
