Abstract
766,699. Air-break switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 4, 1955 [July 2, 1954], No. 19492/54. Class 38(5) An air-break isolating switch has a resistance 11 connected in parallel with one of two pairs of series-connected contacts so that on opening the switch any transformer magnetizing or line charging current flowing is reduced by the resistance on the opening of the first pair and finally interrupted by the second pair of contacts. In the arrangement shown, a contact blade 10 mounted on a rotary insulating post 2 co-operates with fixed contacts 5, 6 mounted on fixed insulating posts 1, 3, the contact 6 having an elongated arcuate form so that the blade 10 disengages from the contact 6 after disengaging from the contact 5. The linear or non-linear resistance 11 is carried by a metal bracket 13 fixed to the contact 5 and a metal bracket 14 pivoted at 15 on the rotational axis of the blade 10. The blade 10 may be provided with spring mounted auxiliary " flicker " contacts.
