A fastening device for securing a ribbon, if desired an adjustable ribbon, to an object such as a corset, another ribbon, or the other end of the same ribbon comprises a base 3 to which is hinged a stiff loop member, the base being a piece cut from a profiled stock of elastically deformable material such as rubber, of a length slightly smaller than that of the loop member. As shown in Fig. 2, a stocking suspender clip 5 of the type described in French Specification 1,002,093 is secured to a corset 7 by the fastener. Two loop members 1, 2 are used and these are connected in holes 30, 31 in the base 3. The stocking clip 5 is connected to the loop member 1 by a ribbon 4 which passes over one limb of the loop member and the width of this loop member is such that the ribbon is compressed between the limb of the loop member and the base 3 which has an extension to position the loop member in the position in which it engages the ribbon 4. The loop member 2 is of greater width than the portion of the base 3 to which it is connected so that it can pivot freely and a ribbon 6 to which the corset 7 is connected passes round the loop member and is sewn to the corset. In another construction, Fig. 7, the loop members 1, 2 are mounted in grooves in the base 3 instead of in holes so that they are detachable. The loop member 1 engages the base 3 in a similar manner to that of the construction described above so that the ribbon 4 is trapped between the base 3 and the loop member 1. The loop member 2 engages over a hook-like projection 33 and in the engaged position of the loop member the relative dimensions of the projection and loop member are such that the ribbon can move freely on the loop member. In a further construction, Fig. 4, two hook-like projections 33, 34 are used on the base 3. The projection 33 is identical with the projection described above but the projection 34 is made so that it firmly engages the loop member 1 so that the ribbon 4 to which the stocking clip 5 is connected is trapped between the loop member and the base 3.
