Abstract

949,384. Garment waists. JOHN SHANNON & SON Ltd. Aug. 21, 1961 [Aug. 26, 1960], No. 29464/60. Heading A3V. A fastening device for trousers, skirts and the like is in the form of an elastic belt 4 having inelastic end portions 22 located in a tunnel formed in the waist band. The elastic belt 4 is permanently anchored at the end 8 of the waistband and its free end protrudes from an open end of the tunnel adjacent the other end of the waistband. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the outer face of the free end of the belt and the contiguous inner face of an extension 11 of the adjacent end of the waistband are provided with releasable coupling means. As shown the coupling means comprise a strip 15 bearing nylon or bristles having hooked or looped ends for engagement with the uncut pile on the contiguous strip 14. Alternatively the coupling means may comprise an adjustable slider engaged in a nylon or metal track, or one or more hook-like or pointed members projecting from one face so as to penetrate the material of the other face. In Fig. 1 the garment is fastened by means of a hook 12 on the extension 11 and a bar 13 adjacent the other end of the waistband. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the extension 11 is omitted, the end of the tunnel is set back from the end of the waistband, and the strip 14 is provided on the end portion of the waistband beyond the end of the tunnel; the garment is fastened by overlapping the other end of the waistband over the end carrying the strip 14 and engaging hooks and bars on these ends. In another embodiment the coupling means are provided on the inner face of the free end of the belt and the outer face of the opposite end of the waistband.
