Abstract

764,711. Flexible winch drives. WALKER BROS. (WIGAN), Ltd., and FRENCH, R. C. A. April 29, 1955 [June 24, 1954], No. 18505/54. Class 78 (5). A mine winder of the Koepe type for tower mounting, includes a friction winch drum 10, a prime mover 28, a cardan shaft 21 passing through hollow drum shaft 13, and a universal joint 18. As shown, motor 28 drives winch drum 10 through reduction gearing 27, universal coupling 25, cardan shaft 21, universal joint 18, and hollow shaft 13 on which the drum 10 is mounted operatively. This allows for misalignment of shafts.
