In a continuous-casting machine of the type comprising a rotatable drum and a flexible movable belt encircling the drum and covering an arcuate portion of a peripheral groove in the drum to form a casting mould, the drum comprises a pair of side walls and an annular member having an outer peripheral groove, and supported in frictional engagement with said walls. The drum-assembly 11, rotatably mounted on a base 10, comprises side walls 35, 36, held together by bolts 40 and supporting an annular grooved member 39, preferably of copper. A pulley 15 around which the flexible metal band 28 passes is mounted on a bracket 14 rotatable about the axis 12 of the drum by a hand wheel 19. A crucible 25 is mounted on a second bracket 21, also rotatable about the axis 12, either with the bracket 14 by rotation of the hand wheel 19, or independently thereof by a handle 24 actuating a rack-and-pinion 22, 23. The interior of the drum is supplied with coolant through its supporting sleeve 38, a predetermined level being maintained in the drum by a drainpipe 43. Pipelines 44, 45 encircle an arcuate portion of the walls of the drum and coolant supplied through apertures 50 in the pipelines enters apertures 41 in the sidewalls 35, 36 to cool the sides of the member 39. A bracket 46 supports the pipelines and also a roller 47 which maintains the band 28 against the edges of the member 39. A nozzle 51 sup. plies coolant to the outside of the band 28. A flexible belt 52 of, e.g., rubber, supported at one end by a tensioning device 54, engages an arcuate portion of the side walls of the drum and with them and the band 28 defines a chamber into which coolant is introduced by a nozzle 55.
