Abstract

1436637 Continuous casting SOUTHWIRE CO 8 May 1973 [8 May 1972] 21862/73 Heading B3F In a wheel-and-band casting machine having a number of band-guide wheels 17-19, a wheel 14, of no less diameter than the guide wheels, urges the band 12 into contact with the casting wheel 11 near the point where molten metal first contacts the wheel and is mounted on an arm 15 pivoted at 25 so that the wheel can be swung for increasing or decreasing the band tension but can yield to excess operating forces. If the casting operation results in an increase of belt tension, the arm 15 and wheel 14 automatically swing towards the casting wheel 11 because of the disposition of the arm and band 12.
