Apparatus for washing and drying blanket cylinders of offset presses comprises two independent endless bands running side-by-side in a direction parallel to the axis of the cylinder. The bands being covered in spongy material and mounted in a frame which rocks on a shaft which is also parallel to the cylinder axis so that either band can be brought into contact with the cylinder surface. Fig. 1 is a cross-section and Fig. 2 a plan of apparatus according to the invention in which a frame formed of a U- shaped plate 1 and an L-shaped plate 2 is welded to a coupling 3 mounted to swing about coaxial pins 4, 4<SP>1</SP> fastened to the shoulders of a press. A washing band 8 covered with spongy material 9 runs over rollers 6, 7 mounted in frame part 1, while a drying band 12 covered with spongy material 13 runs over rollers 10, 11, mounted in frame part 2 each band being belt-driven by motors 14, 15. The bands run with their lower branches in contact with external surfaces 18, 19 of each frame part 1, 2, while rollers 20, 21 maintain tension. The washing band 8 is also provided with two dampening devices 23 comprising hollow rollers with radial holes (24) (Fig. 3, not shown) and an inlet pipe 27 for liquid. A rubber-covered steel scraper blade 29 may be mounted to remove dirty fluid carried by the band 8 after contact with the blanket cylinder 30. The entire apparatus can be easily removed since coupling 3 may be connected to pins 4, 4<SP>1</SP> by for example, a sliding collar. In operation, the cylinder 30 and the motors are started while arm 5, connected to coupling 3, is in position A and separates both bands from the cylinder surface. When moved to positions B or C, bands 8 or 12 respectively are brought into contact with the surface for washing or drying.
