Abstract
763.972. Laminated materials. ANDRE RUBBER CO., Ltd., and YARROW & CO., Ltd. Sept. 30, 1954 [Sept. 30, 1953], No. 26858/53. Class 140. [Also in Group XXVIII] A resilient member 1, Fig. 7, having an outwardly-directed loop 2 flanked by inwardlydirected loops 3 and formed of synthetic rubber or other elastomeric compound reinforced by layers of textile fabric such as of nylon is formed in a diametrically-split mould 12 axiallydirected bias cut nylon fabric pieces of the shape shown in Fig. 11 being arranged in layers around the inner mould periphery with contiguous members of a layer butting or slightly overlapping and members of each layer covering the joints between members of the adjacent layer or layers. The nylon fabric pieces have been previously coated and impregnated with an uncured synthetic rubber compound, e.g. neoprene, as by clipping in a solution thereof and/or by friction-calendering therewith; alternatively a dough of the compound may be spread on the fabric. Layers of the compound may be inserted between some of the fabric layers, the inner and outer ones of which may also be faced with compound. Compression and curing of the member 1 is then effected by injecting steam under pressure into the mould, which has air vents 9. Mould end plates 11 may also be heated.
