Abstract
763,825. Sodium cyclopentadiene and substituted cyclopentadienes. ZIEGLER, K. April 21, 1953 [April 21, 1952; Aug. 5, 1952], No. 10947/53. Class 2 (3). The invention comprises sodium cyclopentadiene, sodium benzylcyclopentadiene and sodium alkylcyclopentadienes, and the preparation thereof by reacting cyclopentadiene, benzylcyclopentadiene or an alkylcyclopentadiene respectively with sodium or a sodium compound of the formula NaX, wherein X represents hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl, indenyl or fluorenyl radical or the NH 2 , NH-Aryl or radical, at an ordinary temperature or elevated temperature of up to 250‹ C. The process may be carried out in an inert solvent, e.g. a hydrocarbon or liquid ammonia. The sodium metal is preferably used in a finely divided form. Instead of cyclopentadiene, the dimeric form thereof may be used in the above process at a temperature above 150‹ C. in an inert medium to form sodium cyclopentadiene. In the examples sodium cyclopentadiene, sodium benzylcyclopentadiene and sodium isopropylcyclopentadiene are prepared. Specification 763,824 is referred to.
