Abstract
3-Pyrazolidones of the general formula <FORM:0650911/IV (b)/1> wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group or a substituted hydrocarbon group, are prepared by reacting b -propiolactone and hydrazine or a hydrocarbon substituted hydrazine of the formula R1NHNH2, where R1 has the above significance. The reaction may be carried out in an inert solvent, e.g. benzene. In the example, 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidone is prepared. 1-p-Chlorophenyl- and 1-p-tolyl-3-pyrazolidone may be similarly prepared.
