Abstract

Compounds of formula (III) or (IV) <FORM:0683593/IV (b)/1> <FORM:0683593/IV (b)/2> are made by reacting compounds of formula (V) or (VI) <FORM:0683593/IV (b)/3> <FORM:0683593/IV (b)/4> with an isocyanate, an isothiocyanate, a urea, a thiourea or N-substituted derivative thereof. The reaction is described in Specification 683,523 together with the use of the products in the preparation of purins. In the above formul R1, R2, R3 and R4 may be the same or different and represent hydrogen, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl groups which may contain inert substituents, X is O or S and R is hydrogen or preferably a hydrocarbon radicle, e.g. ethyl.
