Abstract

1,2,4-Oxodiazolidine derivatives of formula wherein one of R 1 and R 2 represents a C 1 to C 4 alkyl or a C 3 or C 4 alkoxyalkyl radical and the other of R 1 and R 2 represents a phenyl radical (optionally substituted), and X and Y are independently O or S, with the proviso that X may be O only when R 2 is substituted phenyl and Y is S, may be prepared by reacting a urea derivative with a carbonic acid derivative wherein Q and Z independently represent halogen up to atomic number 35 or C 1 to C 5 alkoxy, the reaction being in the presence of a cyclizing agent and at a temperature of from -10 to 25 C.
