Abstract

Novel penicillins of the Formula I and non-toxic salts thereof, wherein R is C 1 -C 5 alkyl are prepared by reacting a 6-([alpha]-aminohydroxyphenylacetamido) - penicillanic acid or salt thereof with a ketone of formula R-CO-CH 3 where R is as defined above. The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of a base (e.g. triethylamine) in excess ketone.
