The thread guides for the ground and face yarns for making a pile fabric such as carpets as described in Specification 763,612 comprise bars 27 each having two apertures 29, 30 spaced apart near one end. A groove 31 on one face leads into the rear aperture 30 and a second groove 28 provided on the oppositef ace connects the two apertures so that the yarn is accommodated within the guide and does not interfere with the needles during knitting. The tip of each guide is recessed as at 32 to enable the yarn to be smoothly delivered from the guide.
