Abstract
763,189. Capacitors. BRENNAN, J. B. May 1, 1951, No. 10204/51. Class 37. An electrolytic device comprises a, porous flexible cathode and anode, the anode contacting a spacer along its length, and having a greater area exposed to the electrolyte than the cathode. The Figure shows the electrode arrangement in a condenser, having three anodes 2, 3 and 4 associated with a single cathode 1. The cathode consists of a thin base material 1a, such as paper, on which particles of a film-forming material such as aluminium are deposited on one side. The anodes are similar in structure to the cathode but the spray deposit is applied to both sides of the base material. Spacer 5 of paper or fibre separates the anodes and cathode. The cathode has a less effective area in contact with the electrolyte than have the anodes, since these have thicker layers of the porous material than the cathode. The portions 6 of the cathode intermediate the anodes may be impregnated with a lacquer or resin so that they are non-reactive electrolytically and serve only as a connecting member between the active sections of the cathode.
