Abstract

817,892. Electrolytic capacitors. BRITISH DIELECTRIC RESEARCH Ltd. March 19, 1956 [March 18, 1955], No. 8003/55. Class 37. A self-healing electrolytic capacitor has an anodized metal foil anode and a cathode formed by an insulating carrier layer metallized on one or both sides. The invention includes wound or stacked electrolytic capacitors of the so-called dry type. As shown, anodized aluminium or tantalum anodes 1 are separated from cathodes 2 by electrolyte impregnated paper 4. The cathodes are preferably formed by vacuum deposition of metal on paper or polystyrene film carriers 3. In Fig. 2, not shown, the carrier is metallized on one side only and one set of separators is omitted. Fig. 3, not shown, relates to low-voltage capacitors in which all separators are omitted. Reference is also made to making sprayed connections to the ends of the cathode 2. To avoid metal being sprayed across to the anode, spraying may take place at an angle to the axis; or the paper 4 may be folded so as to screen the edge of the anode foil.
