762,963. Electric tests. BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT, Ltd. Dec. 31, 1954 [Oct. 28, 1953], No. 29787/53. Class 37. Apparatus for measuring the torque transmitted by a ferromagnetic shaft 1 comprises an A.C.-fed transmitter coil 4 wound round the shaft, and a coaxial receiver coil 7, whereby torque transmitted by the shaft produces a modification in its magnetic properties which is exhibited by a modified voltage induced in coil 7. The voltage in the receiver coil with zero transmitted torque may be balanced out. The spacing between the coils 4, 7 may be adjustable. The shaft 1 may alternatively be of non- magnetic material with a coating of magnetic material.
