[Class 40 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] The thickness of foil or sheet metal interposed between the coils, one of which is supplied with A.C., is indicated by means of the voltage induced in the second. In the Figure, the winding 2, supplied from oscillator 1, induces an E.M.F. in coil 5 througn the specimen 7, a fraction of which.is tapped from potentiometer 9, and passed through amplifier 11, to anodebend rectifier 18. A reference voltage from coil 2 is supplied by potentiometer 4 to anodebend rectifier 25, the output of which is balanced against that of 18, by manipulation of the potentiometer 9. Specimen thickness is indicated on scale 10.
