Abstract
762,214. Making hollow turbine blades. COMPTOIR INDUSTRIEL D'ETIRAGE ET PROFILAGE DE METAUX. March 18, 1954 [April 17, 1953], No. 7961/54. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). Extruding.-A method of making a hollow turbine blade comprises producing by hot extrusion a tubular blank 1, Fig. 1, preferably having a longitudinal solid fin 2, drawing the blank to make its peripheral length equal to that of the desired blade, cutting the blank into elements each of a length slightly longer than the blade, reaming the elements internally to provide the desired wall thickness of the blade, pressing each element to the desired blade profile, Fig. 5, and then cutting it to the required length. Preferably the pressing is carried out in two stages. The blank or elements may be annealed and subsequently pickled between any two successive steps, and the finished blade is heat treated. Blade twist may be imparted during the pressing operations. Glass may be used as a lubricant during the extrusion operation. Specification 607,285 is referred to.
