A metal cable sheath is covered with a conductive rubber, guttapercha or plastic composition having a resistivity of between 10,000 ohms cm. and 3 ohms cm. The covering may comprise a polyvinylchloride compound loaded with 30 to 60 parts by weight of carbon black to 100 parts of compound, or polythene loaded with carbon black.
