Abstract
A process for the precipitation of alloys comprises subjecting the alloy to a solution treatment and then to a precipitation hardening treatment at a temperature below that normal for the alloy whilst subjecting the alloy to neutron irradiation in an atomic pile. The alloy may be subjected to mechanical working combined with the treatment. Alloy steels having the following analyses may be treated:-C Mn Si Ni Cr Mo Ti Nb Ta W Co 6.05 0.7 0.3 22.5 13.3 2.7 1.8 0.3 0.3 - -0.33 1.04 0.37 24.6 19.2 2.28 0.99 0.35 - 1.39 2.37 the balance in each case being iron and unavoidable impurities.
