Abstract
761,993. Induction relays. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Nov. 5, 1954 [Nov. 6. 1953], No. 30781/53. Class 38(5) To facilitate adjustment of the characteristics of a time-overcurrent induction relay employing a shaped induction disc (i.e. a non-circular, slotted, or perforated disc) braked by a permanent magnet, the magnet has two different independent adjustments, each of which varies the braking torque. As shown, the shaped disc 1 rotates between a pair of two-pole permanent magnets 30 providing a closed magnetic flux path crossing the disc. The magnets 30 are carried by a structure 25 slidable on a guide 26 and fixed at the desired distance from the disc spindle 2 by a screw 27 co-operating with a slot. The upper magnet 30 is pivoted at 28 on an eccentric screw, thus permitting adjustment of ,the air gap, the magnet being held in adjusted position by screws 29. In an alternative construction (not shown) one of the magnets is adjustable by rotation about an axis parallel to the spindle 2 whereby the registering area between the opposed magnets is varied. In a further construction (not shown) a flux diverter is employed. The disc 1 is driven by an electromagnet 24 against the bias of a spiral spring 8 so that a silver contact cylinder 13 carried by the spindle 2 engages a dome 17 on a contact arm 15.
