A braking magnet system for relays and instruments of the induction disc type comprises two permanent magnets 6, 9 mounted on two pivoted supports 1, 2 respectively, such that the air gap between the magnets can be adjusted. The support 1 is fixed and is provided with a pivot 4a having an eccentric central section about which the movable support 2 is pivoted. When the required relative adjustment of the . magnets 6, 9 is made by moving the support 2, the latter is locked by a screw 4b and the backlash in the eccentric pivot is taken by a leaf spring 4d arranged as shown in Fig. 1. The end shake of the support 2 is controlled by a shouldered pivot screw 5 passing through a threaded hole in the support 1 and a portion 3 of the support 2.
