Abstract

761,896. Rockets. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. March 4, 1955 [March 5, 1954], No. 6587/64. Class 110 (3). In a rocket, liquid propellant is supplied from a reservoir 13 by a pump 14 to a cooling jacket 12 surrounding a combustion chamber 10, the liquid leaving the jacket 12 and passing to a second pump 15 which increases its pressure and supplies it to an injector 11. The pressure of the liquid in the jacket 12 is less than that within the combustion chamber 10 and is sufficiently low for boiling to occur to enhance cooling. The jacket 12 may be provided with helical passages. The pumps 14, 15 are driven by a motor or turbine 16.
