759,563. Making turbine blades. WURTTEMBERGISCHE METALLWARENFABRIK. June 17, 1954 [June 19, 1953], No. 17871/54. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). Rolling, forging.-In a method of making turbine or compressor blades a blank is first rolled to the required cross-section and taper and is then hot- or cold-stamped to produce the final form including twist of the blade body. A bar section 3, Fig. 5, of aerodynamic crosssection having an enlarged blade root 2 formed thereon in an electric upsetting machine is rolled to the required taper in segmental rolls 4, 5 which are recessed to accommodate the root end 2. The blade may alternatively be transversely rolled between rolls 6, 7, Fig. 6, or both methods of rolling may be used in turn. The blade is finally hot- or cold-stamped between dies 8, 9, Fig. 7, to produce the twist and final form of the blade.
