743,599. Embossing; breaking. STANDARD PRESSED STEEL CO. April 20, 1953 [Sept. 27,1952], No. 10776/53. Classes 83 (2) and 83(4). Making tubular pins.-In a method of making metal articles such as tubular pins from initially flat blanks and in a connected strip for subsequent separation by breaking a blank 10, Fig. 5, is first formed with transverse steps 151, 35 by a punch and anvil and the steps are subsequently flattened during following skelping &c. operations to form a slit 21, Fig. 7, in the cross-section where the break is to occur. In forming pins with chamfers at each end both the punch 11, Fig. 3 and anvil 12 have steps 15, 33 for forming the steps 15<SP>1</SP>, 35 and the anvil has chamfered faces 16<SP>1</SP>, 34. In another example in which only one end of each pin is to be chamfered the anvil 11 has the step omitted and the resultant blank has a chamfer 16<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 15, on the raised side of the step 151.
