Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible the cold forging of a stepped shaft having a bulged step on the inner side in the shaft length by using upper and lower sectional dies which are split to a front part die slidable in an axial direction and a stationary rear part die and have a large diameter part in the front end of the die hole and a circumferential groove part between the front and rear parts.
CONSTITUTION: A pair of upper, lower sectional dies 1 are split to a front part movable die 2 and a rear part stationary die 3. Both are connected by means of coil springs 4, and the former has a large diameter part 7 in the front end of the die hole. The inside circumferential corner parts of the rear end of the former and the front end of the latter are notched and a circumferential groove 8 is formed when both approach. First, the work shaft 9 is inserted into the die hole and space-holding wedges 5 are interposed between the dies 2 and 3, after which both dies are pressed in the axial center direction to hold the shaft 9. Next, the dies are pressed in an arrow direction by a punch 6, to form an end part bulged step 10 at the front end of the shaft. Thence, the pressing force of the dies 2, 3 is lowered and the wedges 5 are removed. The die 2 is then slided backward by the punch 6 to form an inner bulged step 11, after which the die 1 is opened and the stepped shaft is taken out.
