Abstract

759,508. Pipe couplings. SEAMARK, L. M. C. Oct. 12, 1954 [Oct. 13, 1953], No. 28226/53. Class 99(1). Curved plates 7, Fig. 1, are clamped against the exterior surfaces of the ends of thin-walled pipes 2 by means of nuts 5 on studs 3 projecting radially from a liner 1, projections 8 on the plates 7 pressing the ends of the pipes into circumferential grooves in the liner so as to hold the pipes against axial pull. Rubber &c. sealing-rings 10 mounted in wide shallow grooves in the liner are pressed against the interior walls of the pipes and are forced towards the inner or outer ends of the grooves according to whether the pressure inside the pipes is greater or less than that outside. In Fig. 3, the bolts are separate and have flanges 12 fitting in a circumferential groove in the liner 1, and arcuate or dome-shaped clamping-plates 14 are provided, the ends of the pipe being bent upwardly into the recesses in the plates when nuts 15 are tightened.
