Abstract

759,485. Dry shavers. ARVIN ELECTRIC, Ltd., and COX, E. F. Jan. 18, 1954 [Jan. 19, 1953], No. 1494/53. Class 131. [Also in Group XXXV] A dry shaver comprises a number of cutting heads each independently detachable from a casing and each having an inner shear coupled to a driving member, pivotable about an axis fixed with relation to the casing, by a spring located between and engaging the inner shear and the driving member and urging the inner shear towards the shear plate the spring taking up wear on the driving member. As shown, identical cutting heads 40, each consisting of a shear plate 66 formed by one side of a rectangular section casing 65, and a reciprocating inner shear 61, having a slotted face co-operating with the shear plate are detachably secured by clips 75, 76 and tongues 81a to a plate 63 mounted on the casing 4 by bushes 64. The beaded ends of a spring 70 are received in slots 71 in the inner shear and a curve 72 in the spring receives a prong 60 from a driving member oscillated through a small angle by a two pole interrupter type motor in the casing. A hair trap in the form of a resilient pad 77 closely surrounding each prong, a removable frame 82 surrounding the cutter heads, and a cover for the cutter heads, when they are not in use, are provided. A starter button 30 and a switch 84 for selecting one or other or both of the coils on the arms of the stator in the motor so that the operating voltage may be changed are also provided.
