Abstract

A dry fine extinguishing powder may comprise grown crystals of a salt 10-100m in size mixed with 20-50 per cent by weight of said salt in the form of ground crystals not exceeding 10m in size. Sodium bicarbonate and ammonium sulphate are referred to. Other ingredients specified include carbon (charcoal or graphite) and organic fire extinguishing compounds such as naphthalene, and hydrophobic substances such as stearates, known to improve the free-flowing and storing properties of fire extinguising powders. The latter may be used in the form of a solution or melt to treat the extinguishing substance or merely mixed therewith. Specification 745,943 is referred to.
