Abstract

The caking tendency of sodium chloride is reduced by the addition to the salt in the solid state, of a soluble ferro- or ferri-cyanide or a soluble cadmium salt in amounts based on the solid sodium chloride of less than 0.05 per cent and preferably of 0.02 to 0.00002 per cent. The addition may be made by atomizing a dilute solution of the additive on to a stream of solid salt which is thereafter thoroughly mixed or by adding the additive to a suspension of salt in its mother liquor after the termination of evaporating. Examples relate to the use of sodium ferrocyanide, cadmium nitrate and potassium ferrocyanide. Specification 667,101 is referred to.
