Abstract

A process for coating graphite powder with a copper-lead alloy, comprises agitating in an aqueous solution of a copper salt the graphite powder in admixture with a lead-zinc alloy powder consisting of 0.5 to 10 per cent lead and the remainder zinc or a lead-zinc-copper alloy powder consisting of 0.5 to 10 per cent lead, 0.5 to 20 per cent copper and the remainder zinc. The alloy powder preferably has a grain size within the range 80 to 200 mesh and the copper salt may be the sulphate, chloride or acetate. By way of example are described the use of (a) copper sulphate solution and a copper-lead-zinc alloy consisting of 15 per cent copper, 5 per cent lead and 80 per cent zinc and (b) copper sulphate solution and a lead-zinc alloy consisting of 95 per cent lead.
