Abstract
757,985. Valves. COOPER, F. C. July 8, 1953 [July 8, 1952], No. 17131/52. Class 135. A cold and hot water mixing valve device controlled at a single manual point, e.g. the screw-actuated valve 8 at the outlet 7, incorporates a valve 17 actuated by a piston 10 exposed on one side to cold water pressure at 2 and at the other side to hot water pressure at 3, so that the hot water will be interrupted on failure of the cold. The water supplies pass through a barrel 13 having ports 19, 20 leading to a mixing chamber 4 controlled by a ported sleeve valve 22 rotatable on the barrel by a lever 26 and link 25 when the valve 8 is operated. The piston has a bore ported at 12. As the valve 8 is retracted from its seat a spring 30 forces the sleeve to rotate and keeps the lever 26 abutting an extension on the valve. A bimetal coil 33 may be connected between the sleeve valve and a flange 31 operated by the link.
