Class 56 [Also in Groups XI and XII] In a glass making furnace (see Groups XI and XII) in which refining is effected in an electrically heated cell 2 communicating on the one hand with a melting furnace 1 and on the other hand with a conditioning and cooling compartment 5, the cell is divided by graphite partitions 10-13 arranged as shown to define a sinuous course for the molten glass. During its passage through the cell, the molten glass is constrained to come several times to the surface of the bath, where it gives up gaseous bubbles that it may contain.
