In a " cascode " circuit a filter is connected between the anode of the first valve and the cathode of the second, the characteristic impedance of the filter being substantially equal to the input impedance of the second valve. As shown, the filter 7 is designed to pass a television signal and reject the accompanying sound signal. Alternatively, it may prevent the local oscillator output or an intermediate frequency from being fed back into the aerial or prevent a received signal at a frequency near the intermediate frequency passing to succeeding stages of the circuit. Additional similar stages of amplification with different rejection bands may be added in cascade or the first valve may be arranged as a self-oscillating frequency changer (Fig. 3, not shown), in which case the filter may reject the local oscillator frequency.
