Abstract
757,144. Weigh hoppers. SOUTHALL & SMITH, Ltd. May 18, 1955 [May 25, 1954], No. 15348/54. Class 78 (1). A weigh hopper 4 comprises a pair of discharge doors pivotally mounted on the hopper, a spring-loaded latch member 12 pivotally mounted on one of the doors and co-operating with the other door to interlock the doors in the closed position, and means 18 whereby the latch can be rocked against its spring loading to unlock the doors to discharge the hopper. As shown, doors 9A, 9B of hopper 4 are pivoted at 11, door 9A carrying pivotally latch 12 biased by spring 14, and door 9B carrying cam plate 16. The hopper is mounted on knife edges 6 carried by balance beams 7. The hopper is filled so that the balance arms descend to close contacts to operate a clutch to rotate a cam which swings arm 18 first downwards and then upwards. As arm 18 moves downwards it strikes roller 17 to depress the latch held by cam plate 16 and to allow the doors to swing open under the weight of material which thereupon discharges. Arm 18 then swings upwards to reset the latch.
