756,470. Automatic flow control systems. TEDDINGTON AIRCRAFT CONTROLS, Ltd. Jan. 8, 1954, No. 634/54. Class 38 (4). To maintain a constant airflow to a pressurized aircraft cabin a venturi is inserted in a conduit supplying the cabin from a jet engine driven compressor and a reversible electric servomotor operating a valve in the conduit is automatically controlled in dependence on the position of a diaphragm differentially responsive to the pressures in the throat and upstream of the venturi. , In Fig. 1 one side of the diaphragm 4 is subjected to the throat pressure through a conduit 3 while the other side is subjected to the upstream pressure through a conduit 2. A restrictor valve 7 and a bleed valve 6 are associated with conduits 2 and 3 to facilitate adjustment of the rate of flow, e.g. to regulate cabin temperature. Restrictor valve 7 is preset and bleed valve 6 is cam operated by a reversible electric motor controlled by a thermostat operating a change-over switch. The system may be arranged to increase airflow and hence reduce cabin temperature if a temperature lower than that corresponding to maximum cooling of the airstream is required. A single unit embodying valves 6 and 7 for coupling between the venturi and the diaphragm is described.
