Abstract

1430383 Fluid-pressure servomotor systems NORMALAIR-GARRETT (HOLDINGS) Ltd 13 March 1973 [23 March 1972] 13581/72 Heading G3P [Also in Division A5] An aneroid 10 in a regulator supplying an outlet 41 for an aviator's mask or pressurized garment expands with increasing altitude firstly to close a valve 20 so that the oxygen supply 23 raises the pressure in a chamber 27 to a value determined by a relief valve 30 to provide a slightly raised pressure at the outlet, secondly to open a valve 22 and allow an actuator 34 to close an air inlet valve 35 and thirdly to close a valve 13 to increase the loading on the relief valve and the outlet pressure further, the pressure in a space 33 also being increased to keep the volume of the chamber 27 and the characteristics of the regulator constant. The valve 20 has a magnetized closure plate. In a second embodiment, oxygen from a supply duct (73), Fig. 2 (not shown) flows into a space (74) from which it escapes through a pressure regulating valve (67) operated by the aneroid (60). Pressure in the space (74) thus increases with altitude firstly to cause an assembly (80 .. 83) to depress a diaphragm (84) and raise the pressure at the outlet (101) slightly, secondly to cause an actuator (92) to close an air inlet valve (93) and a valve (80, 81) forming part of the assembly to open allowing oxygen to escape through a duct (87), a valve (78) and a port (90), and finally to close the valve (78) to increase the pressure on the diaphragm (84) and at the outlet (101). A manual control for the valve (67) permits 100% oxygen to be delivered at low altitudes.
