Abstract
1404254 Fluid-pressure servomotor systems VAPOR CORP 11 May 1973 [8 Sept 1972] 22639/73 Heading G3P [Also in Division F2] A combined pressure regulating and shut-off valve which is actuated by upstream fluid-pressure via a regulator 42 and an electromagnetically controlled pilot valve 44 comprises a tubular housing 10 with an inlet 11 and an outlet 12 containing a support rod 13 which carries a fixed skirt 25 and a slidable spring-biased piston 19 with an extending cylindrical sleeve 20 which sleeve co-operated with an annular valve seat 21 to control fluid-flow. The rod, skirt, piston and end-wall 22 define a pivot chamber 24 which is connected to atmosphere through passage 26, and a second chamber 23 which is supplied with the regulated upstream fluid-pressure when the solenoid is actuated. The main valve is closed and chamber 23 is connected to atmosphere when the solenoid is not actuated. The sealing 27 between the skirt and the cylindrical sleeves comprises a split carbon outer ring and an inner expander ring fitted in a groove of the sleeve. The sealing 31, Fig. 5, between the end-wall 22 and the sleeve comprises two expansion rings 32 fitted in a groove 34 in the end-plate and a contraction ring 34 sandwiched between the rings 32. The sealing between the piston and the support rod comprises a single carbon contraction ring. The regulator valve 42 comprises a frustoconical closure member 49 supported by an adjustably spring-biased diaphragm 51 which member 49 partially blocks a valve opening 48 between an inlet 46 and an outlet 47. Additional control of the outlet pressure is provided by a relief valve 55 and by the rod 50 which carries the member 49 being separable from the diaphragm. The pilot valve 44 comprises a ball closure member normally biased to cut-off the supply from the regulator but which, on energization of the solenoid, moves to cut-off the atmospheric connection to the chamber 23 and replace it by the regulator valve connection.
